September Is National Suicide Prevention Month — And We’re Not Sitting This One Out

At RockMental, we don’t do surface-level. We don’t do silence. And we sure as hell don’t do “thoughts and prayers” without action.

September is National Suicide Prevention Month — a time to speak up, check in, and get real about the mental health crisis that’s taking too many lives, especially among men. This isn’t just a cause we care about. It’s the reason we exist.

The Stats Are Brutal — And That’s Why We’re Loud About It

We’ve partnered with HeadsUpGuys because they’re doing the work — not just talking about it. Their research lays it out plain:

  • Men account for 75–80% of deaths by suicide across the U.S., Canada, and the UK.
  • In the U.S. alone, about 100 men die by suicide every day.
  • Suicide is the second leading cause of death for men under 45.
  • And here’s the kicker: less than 1 in 5 men who die by suicide had reached out to a mental health professional in the year before their death.

Let that sink in. This isn’t just a mental health issue — it’s a silence issue. A stigma issue. A “don’t talk about it” issue. And that’s exactly what we’re here to break.

Why RockMental Is in This Fight

We built RockMental to be more than a podcast, more than a brand. It’s a lifeline. A place where people can hear stories that sound like their own. Where the noise of stigma gets drowned out by honesty, vulnerability, and community.

That’s why we’re bringing HeadsUpGuys’ resources to our fans — especially the men who’ve been told to “man up” instead of speak up. Their site is packed with tools to help guys recognize what they’re going through, manage suicidal thoughts, and build a plan to stay safe. It’s not therapy-speak. It’s real, practical, and made for men who feel like they’re out of options.

Know Someone Who’s Struggling? Don’t Wait.

If someone in your life is going through it — and you’re not sure what to do — we’ve got you. Our Get Help page is built for moments like this. Whether you’re the one in crisis or you’re trying to help someone else, you’ll find direct links to crisis lines, support networks, and guides on how to intervene without making things worse.

You don’t have to be a therapist to save a life. You just have to show up, ask the hard questions, and stay present.

This Is What #MoshPitMentality Looks Like

We talk a lot about #MoshPitMentality — and this is where it shows up. It’s not just about music. It’s about what happens in the pit: when someone falls, people pick them up. No hesitation. No judgment. That’s the energy we bring to mental health. We look out for each other. We fight for each other. And we don’t let anyone go down without a hand reaching out. That’s the kind of community we’re building — loud, raw, and ready to catch you when you stumble.

This Month — and Every Month — We Show Up

We’re not here to sugarcoat anything. Suicide is real. It’s devastating. And it’s preventable.

So this September, we’re asking you to do three things:

  1. Check in — with yourself and with your people.
  2. Speak up — even if your voice shakes.
  3. Share the resources — because you never know who’s scrolling through your feed needing a sign to stay.

We’ll be sharing more throughout the month — stories, tools, and reminders that you’re not alone. Not now. Not ever.

If you’re reading this and you’re in pain: you matter. You’re not broken. You’re not weak. You’re human. And there’s help.

Let’s keep each other alive. Because in the pit, NOBODY MOSHES ALONE!
